About your professor
Hello! My name is Lynsey Nejman and I will be co-teaching KSU 4401 this fall. The goal of this course is to prepare you all for life after college. I have a unique perspective on this, as I am still surviving life after my own graduation!
I graduated with my bachelor's degree in 2010 from a small, private institution in Florida: Jacksonville University. Since graduating, I have moved three times and with each move, I have applied to, interviewed for, and been hired to three different positions. This does not necessarily make me an expert, however, I do have experience with getting a job.
Also, I am about to graduate with my Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration. This means that in the recent past, I have also applied to, gotten accepted to, and almost completed a graduate degree. I also work in the graduate admissions office at KSU, so I am well versed in applying to graduate school.
I am looking forward to working with you this fall! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

About the course
Congratulations! All of the hard work you have put in over the last four (or five or six) years is finally paying off! You are about to graduate college.
This class is unique to all of you, because it covers the vast space and time between graduation and your post-graduate plans. We will discuss everything from applying to and interviewing for employment, applying to graduate school, managing your finances, purchasing health insurance, utilizing professional social media, and more. We will bring in a number of guest networkers who specialize in certain areas of interest, such as career services or human resources.
Everyone enrolled in this course is a college senior, so you are all in a similar part of life. We will discuss topics that are vital to all of you. Using the classroom as a starting point, you will have the opportunity to use trial and error now to determine the best strategies. This way, you will know what to do in a few months when your choices really count.
In the first few weeks, we will introduce ourselves to the rest of the class using an elevator speech. An elevator speech is an introduction speech that details who you are, your education and work experience, and your educational and career goals. The speeches need to be less than a minute in length, and we will post them to our class website. Please view everyone's introduction before our second class.
This assignment is also designed to help you answer the one question you are guaranteed to be asked at an interview: "So, tell me about yourself." The rest of the semester will be completing assignments similar to this one. They are all designed to help you succeed after graduation.
If there is anything you would like to cover, please email me. I will make sure to add it to our course schedule. We want you to be as prepared as possible once you graduate!
