Welcome to my portfolio
My name is Lynsey Nejman, and I am enrolled in the Master’s of Education in Higher Education Administration. I have been enrolled for the past five semesters, and will be graduating in December. This program reviews all aspects of higher education, from the history of higher education through the current political climate. As a student, I have learned and reviewed both the micro and macro aspects of all higher education.
The education I have received from this program has helped me exponentially in my career in higher education. It has made me view my role in a university as part of the institutional goal rather than just a cog in wheel. This program helped me improve my professional skills, which has been invaluable in my role as a higher education professional. Each course in this program required extensive participation to complete the course and program objectives. By actively contributing to the discussions, completing each assignment, and delving into each topic presented, I have learned much about the field of higher education and how I can be successful in this field. The program has provided me with a plethora of skills for use in my professional career. For more details, please review my reflections.
Through this program, I have not only determined what skills are vital to higher education administrators, but I have also identified where I must improve. Higher Education is a constantly evolving field. There are times in which my strengths will help me, such as counseling students, giving presentations, and hopefully teaching one day. However, I feel that my weakness of having difficulty dealing with last minute changes will hinder my career if I do not work on it. Things will happen that will cause plans to change, whether that is a classroom under construction, or a flat tire on the way to a presentation or recruitment event. There are many moving parts in a higher education institution that we have no control over. For example, the Board of Regents may decide to consolidate your institution with another, causing mass panic. Learning how to “roll with the punches” is a vital skill for any field, but especially for higher education.
This portfolio is a culmination of the work I have completed during my tenure in the program. It includes at least one piece of work from each of my twelve courses, as well as all I have done in my practicum. It is comprehensive and shows a strong grasp of the course content. However, it does not fully depict how much I have learned in this program, as that is immeasurable.
